The National Science Museum in Tokyo was putting together an exhibit on the exploration of Antarctica when they approached my boss about borrowing several of his fossils. He has been working on the paleontology of Antarctica for over 20 years, and has one of the better, if not best, collections of fossil material from the continent in the world. He approved the loan of the material if the fossils were accompanied to and from the exhibit, to ensure their proper handling and safety. I was lucky enough to be chosen for this job! I was in Japan from July 6 to 16 to help set up the exhibit, and returned September 2 to 7 to pick the material up.
Not only was I able to watch the exhibit being put together and get to help with the fossil side of things, I was also lucky enough to have free time to go sightseeing around Tokyo, Kyoto and some of the countryside (even climb Mount Fuji!!). These are pictures from my excursions. I am just learning how to use a slide show program to display the pictures. I have yet to figure out how to add text to each picture, so I have provided information below the slide show that will explain what is taking place in most of the pictures. Feel free to ask me if you would like any other details on the pictures!
I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed taking them! ~ ReBecca |
